The island of Kos has a very rich history and therefore there are plenty of historical sites and monuments to go and visit. I have tried to come up with a list of monuments from all eras and areas. Included are some of the most popular and most important historical sites, monuments as well as a museum. Nearly all of these places are easily accessible (the Palaio Pyli Fortress might be a bit difficult to get to). I chose to publish another post « off the beaten track » in which I have included some monuments or sites that are worth seeing but are somewhat more difficult to get to.
This list is not exhaustive by any means but I think it will allow some of you to have a good idea of what you should expect to see on the island of Kos. Frequent visitors could have missed something and might get the opportunity to discover something new. I have also excluded the modern day Churches from the list since I have a dedicated section for the best Churches on the island on the Churches page of the site in order to share my insights on that subject. I hope this article helps you out during your stay on the island of Kos. Please feel free to comment as I intend to take comments into account in future reassessments of the list.
